Biography

Dana Christine Lewis was born in Manhattan Beach, CA. She received her Bachelors degree from Northern Arizona University and returned to Southern California in 2015 to study painting in Laguna Beach. At Laguna College of Art & Design she focused her MFA thesis on underwater imagery and figurative painting. She became an exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts in 2019.

Her work reflects a lifelong relationship with the ocean as a free-diver and open-water swimmer. The ocean current creates a constantly moving rhythm—and she often looks to express the spirit and futility of a swimmer as they fight against, or flow with the current. She focuses on the language of anatomy and movement, as well as the underwater atmosphere created by glowing, refracted light. She is often diving in search of new inspiration, finding a delightful challenge in the expression a transitory underwater experience as a static image of a painting.
