Biography

I have been a plein air landscape painter for the past thirty five years. In the earliest stages of my career, I painted on the streets of Philadelphia. It was there that I fell in love with the act of perceptual painting in response to the environment surrounding my home. The act of working onsite among masses of people taught me how to economize my tools and work habits to become a successful plein air artist.
My paintings reflect the landscape in which I live. I paint entirely from life, beginning and completing each painting on location. It is through this direct response to nature that I have found a spiritual connection with nature, light and atmosphere. I make little effort to copy nature, rather, I respond to it.

I hold a M.F.A. from Tyler School of art in Philadelphia. I am currently a full Professor of Art at University of New England and have taught for thirty four years. I have had twenty five solo shows and have been included in over one hundred group shows both Nationally and Internationally. My paintings can be found in private and public collections throughout the United States and Europe.
I happily reside with my family in the seaside community of Saco. Maine
